SPCA of Brazoria County
A 501(c)(3) since 1974

Leading Brazoria County to a future without homeless pets.

We are an open-admission, no-kill shelter providing medical care, refuge, and adoption services to thousands of animals each year.

Our mission

The SPCA of Brazoria County focuses on four pillars: education promoting responsible pet ownership and animal welfare, low-cost spay/neuter services to prevent unwanted litters, adoption placing homeless pets in loving homes, and operating a no-kill shelter that provides medical care and refuge.

Since taking over operation of the Southern Brazoria County Animal Shelter in 2003, we have served the cities of Freeport, Clute, and Lake Jackson as an open-admission facility, meaning we do not turn away animals in need.

History

Founded in 1974 by a group of concerned community members, the SPCA of Brazoria County began as an all-volunteer effort to address the growing population of homeless pets in our area. Over five decades later, we operate a full-service shelter, a low-cost spay/neuter clinic, a thrift store that funds our work, and ongoing programs to support fosters and volunteers.

What "no-kill" means to us

A no-kill shelter saves every healthy and treatable animal in its care. Euthanasia is reserved only for animals with terminal medical conditions that cannot be treated or behavioral issues that pose a serious safety risk. We work tirelessly with fosters, partner rescues, and our medical team to give every animal the best possible chance.
