SPCA of Brazoria County
Foster program

Fostering saves not one life, but two.

By providing a temporary home, you free up shelter space for the next animal in need. We provide the supplies, the medical care, and the support - you provide the love.

Who we look for

Animals are placed in foster care when they are too young for the shelter floor, recovering from surgery or illness, or need socialization and decompression time in a home. We match foster families with the right pet based on your experience, lifestyle, and household.

What we provide

  • All medical care, including vaccines and spay/neuter
  • Food, crates, beds, and supplies as needed
  • 24/7 emergency support line for foster pets
  • Behavioral and medical guidance from our staff
  • Insurance coverage while in foster

What you provide

  • A safe, quiet space in your home
  • Time, attention, and patience as your foster decompresses
  • Transportation to vet visits and adoption events (we help if needed)
  • Updates and photos so we can find them a forever home

How long does fostering last?

It varies. Neonatal kittens may need 6-8 weeks until they reach adoption age. A recovering dog might be in your home for a few days to a few weeks. Long-term medical fosters can last months. We will always tell you the estimated timeline up front and work with your schedule.
